Pediatric Surgeon | Pioneer in Minimally Invasive Surgery | Ladd Medal Recipient
Dr. Steven S. Rothenberg is the Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Rocky Mountain Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and a Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University. A world-renowned pioneer in minimally invasive surgery in children, Dr. Rothenberg performed the first thoracoscopic repair of esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) worldwide — a landmark achievement that transformed the field. He is a founding member and past president of the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG) and serves on the Board of Governors of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious William E. Ladd Medal by the American Academy of Pediatrics for outstanding contributions to pediatric surgery. With over 180 peer-reviewed publications and more than 300 invited lectures globally, Dr. Rothenberg continues to advance thoracoscopic and laparoscopic techniques for neonatal and pediatric patients.
