Technical Considerations in Surgical Resection of Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumors
Abstract
Abdominal metastatic disease is a nearly universal feature of Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor. The presence of this large tumor burden can be dissuasive to surgeons. Aggressive attempts at resection of all of the dozens to hundreds of nodules in the abdomen are often fraught with difficulty. This author has operated on over 200 patients with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor and offers technical considerations that aid in complete removal of all intraabdominal tumors (sarcomatosis) with an organ sparing approach.
