Pediatric Surgical Oncology Research Collaborative (PSORC): Studying Rare Pediatric Tumors

Does anybody ever wonder how we study these rare pediatric tumors when no single center has enough patients to be able to answer the question on their own? Hi, I'm Doctor Sophia Schriermerhorn from Cincinnati Children's, and I'm here today to tell you about Peacework, the pediatric surgical oncology Research collaborative. Peacework is a multi-institution organization that's focused on improving surgical care for both pediatric and adolescent patients with cancer. The collaborative is housed at Cincinnati Children's and brings together both researchers and pediatric surgeons from over 16. Institutions across North America. Because many pediatric tumors are rare, no single institution has enough patients to be able to power studies to answer important research questions. But by collaborating across institutions, PSOR can pool expertise, data, and patient populations in order to perform larger, high-quality studies. To date, the collaboration has produced over 20 manuscripts and has presented over 40 abstracts. So stay tuned for videos highlighting PO studies and other pediatric surgical oncology research.
