Published: Reading: 1 min

Abstract

We read with great interest the article by Pardy C et al. entitled “Complete Resection of Necrotic Bowel Improves Survival in NEC Without Compromising Enteral Autonomy (J Pediatr Surg. 2024 Feb; 59(2):206–210) [1]. We congratulate the authors for their pioneering work showing that survival increased when complete resection of necrotic bowels was performed in patients with surgical necrotising enterocolitis (NEC). They performed an ostomy in 36 of the 44 babies with surgical NEC, completely resected the necrotic intestines in 27 patients, and left i-situ the necrotic intestines in 17 patients in their study.
