Pediatric surgeons often define the field as the “last true bastion” of general surgery. On any given day, we are called upon to care for a wide spectrum of children from the most fragile premature infants to adult-sized victims of trauma. The same surgeons are expected to have total expertise of the intertwining branches of an ever-growing neuroblastoma risk stratification schematic tree while staying up to date on the contemporary management of once-in-a-lifetime nuanced congenital diseases and anomalies.
