What the experts said
This is a prospective observational study conducted in the United States that evaluated quality of life in patients with pilonidal cysts before and after minimally invasive surgery.
The study included 101 patients with pilonidal cysts who underwent minimally invasive surgery.
Before surgery, daily activities were affected in 66% of patients, sports capacity in 57%, school attendance in 45%, and social activities in 22%.
After surgery, daily activities were affected in only 7% of patients, sports in 8%, school attendance in 2%, and social activities in 4%.
Minimally invasive surgery for pilonidal cysts appears to be highly beneficial for patient quality of life.
