Here's an article you should know about that was published in Pediatrics in 2014. Lebonner Children's Hospital implemented a clinical pathway in the emergency room for appendicitis to try to minimize CT and maximize consistency of care in children. Low risk patients were sent home. Medium risk patients received an ultrasound and high risk patients received a surgical consult. The overall diagnostic accuracy is 94%. Check out the links below.
