This study demonstrates that seeking a second opinion for breast cancer diagnosis adds time to treatment initiation but remains within Commission on Cancer quality standards. Once care begins at the treating institution, time to treatment is equivalent regardless of whether patients obtained external opinions, supporting patient autonomy in seeking additional consultation.
